You Are Not Alone! Finding out that you or your child have type 1 diabetes (T1D) can be overwhelming. It’s a new way of living and the list of things you’ll need to learn seems to go on forever. You receive so much information from your doctor, diabetes educator and dietician, but then comes the time when you have to go home and “DO IT YOURSELF”. But you’re not alone – we have families in our chapter who know exactly what you are going through and they are available to answer questions and to help you figure things out!
First – Let us Bring you a Bag of Hope.
Contact the office and ask about our Bag of Hope program. Each bag is filled with helpful tools that will help you and your child better understand this new disease, and will enable you to provide better care for him or her.
If you are a school nurse or doctor and would like to request JDRF resources and/or a Bag of Hope for one of your students or patients, please reach out.
When you’re ready – meet other families dealing with type 1 diabetes 24/7.
There’s always something happening at JDRF. In addition to our annual Walks, Galas and Golf/Tennis events our Outreach Committee is always adding more events for kids and get-togethers for parents. Events like our Family Day & Diabetes Expo at Rye Playland give families a chance to meet, chat and have a great time.
Always – feel free to reach out.
We’ve been there…whether you’re concerned because your school nurse doesn’t seem to know much about caring for a child with diabetes; or you’re afraid to let your child go to a birthday party because she’ll be surrounded by cake and candy; or you’re terrified to let your son drive the car because of what might happen if his blood sugar crashes while he’s on the road, we’re available to help. Contact one of our Outreach Committee Co-Chairs below, and if they don’t have an answer, they’ll hook you up with someone who does.
